Ellipse Animation, Belvision and PAN group team up on new Lucky Luke animated feature
Lucky Luke in Welcome to Fanga Town
Pan Animation, Ellipse Animation and Belvision are co-developing a new 3D animated feature based on the iconic Lucky Luke franchise. The film will be directed by Bernard Campan (The Three Brothers, Beautiful Minds) and Célestine Plays (The Marsupilamis, Grizzy and the Lemmings), from an original screenplay by Campan and Antoine Schoumsky (The Legendaries, The Smurfs).
The project brings together a high-end creative team, with artistic direction led by Szymon Biernacki (Goat, Klaus) alongside Clément Dartigues (Klaus), and visual development by La Grange Animation (Klaus, Grizzy and the Lemmings) and Stim Studio (Garfield, The Wild Robot). The animated feature is budgeted at €18.5 million.
As Lucky Luke and Jolly Jumper are finally about to take a few days off, they stumble upon Fanga Town — a city obsessed with jeans, soda, burgers and selfies — thriving thanks to Jeff McDium’s factory. This unscrupulous tycoon monopolizes drinking water and pollutes the river in the name of progress. Only a young and mysterious rebel, with questionable methods, dares to stand up to him. Will she manage to win Luke over to her cause? Between an “old couple” crisis with Jolly, Rantanplan’s identity struggles, and detox smoothies for burned‑out horses, Lucky Luke will above all have to face an unexpected enemy: unapologetic capitalism.
With more than 320 million copies sold across 36 languages and a strong legacy in publishing, television and film, Lucky Luke remains one of Europe’s most valuable and widely recognized franchises. The brand is celebrating its 80th anniversary with a major cross-media rollout including new editions, exhibitions, a live-action series for Disney+ and France Télévisions, and immersive audio content.
Lucky Luke in Welcome to Fanga Town, produced by Nathalie Gastaldo Godeau, Caroline Duvochel and Raphaële Ingberg, is scheduled to begin production in the second half of 2026, with a release planned for 2029, backed by Pan Distribution.
